  • DART provides funds for regionally significant, collaborative marketing efforts via its Regional MTMPP grant from the Maine Office of Tourism
  • DART seeks funding from other sources to support business and professional development and program implementation; matching funds are required for the MTMPP Regional grant
  • DART collaborates with any local or regional organization interested in contributing to regional health and well-being through tourism-related community and economic development projects
  • DART provides a regional voice to the Maine Office of Tourism, Maine Tourism Association and other state or private efforts affecting the region

Training and Professional Development

True Maine Visitor Guide

  • DART publishes and distributes 30,000 copies annually of the Visitor Guide for DownEast Acadia which promotes True Maine at its finest; a digital copy is accessible on DownEastAcadia.com
  • True Maine Visitor Guides are sent to potential visitors upon request, distributed at visitor centers throughout the region and in Maine and the mid-Atlantic states, and at national travel shows
  • Each DART Member Chamber receives a twice-monthly list of visitor information requests generated via DownEastAcadia.com; these lists allow chambers to provide information to visitors who specifically state their interest in their part of the region

Regional Branding

  • All printed materials, advertisements, video, social media, and the website are being streamlined to carry a cohesive look in an ongoing effort to create brand recognition for the DownEast Acadia region
  • A Tourism Toolkit is provided to help businesses more cohesively market themselves or their communities in line with regional efforts

Travel Show Participation

  • DART distributes brochures at approximately 7 national and Canadian travel shows in partnership with the Maine Office of Tourism.
  • DART sends volunteers to the AAA Adventure Show in Gillette, the Maine Campground Owners Association’s Camping and RV Show, and the New England Fishing & Outdoor Expo, giving the entire region exposure in some of our key markets (New England, Mid-Atlantic states, and eastern Canada).

Free Marketing Opportunities for Area Businesses/Event Organizers

  • Businesses and events can post their information free of charge on both the DART and Maine Office of Tourism websites
  • DART participates in the Maine Office of Tourism’s Tech Share program that ensures our site will keep in pace with upcoming technology developments without having to constantly invest large amounts for upgrades
  • DART provides free print and broadcast advertising for significant regional assets

Cooperative Advertising

  • DART underwrites a DownEast Acadia section in Maine Invites You, the primary Visitor Guide sent out by the Maine Office of Tourism (300,000 copies distributed annually), by contributing a subsidy to each Chamber that purchases a ½ or 1 page community ad in this high-profile publication
  • DART purchases 13 weeks of broadcast advertising on Maine Public Radio from June-September, to promote regional assets and events

  • DART advertises special aspects of the regional experience in print publications such as Maine Camping Guide, Yankee, Down East, and others as appropriate; and on digital marketing platforms such as Trip Advisor and Google

 Social Media & E-Newsletter Outreach

  • DART regularly maintains Facebook and Instagram accounts to share articles, events, photos, visitor experiences, and news from the region
  • DART produces a regular E-Newsletter that is sent to potential visitors who express interest in the region via DownEastAcadia.com or VisitMaine.com

Photo & Video Procurement

  • DART contracts with local artists to create photography and video that highlights special assets and special initiatives throughout the region, including exemplary local “doers and makers” who provide unique opportunities for visitors to experience local culture and history

Research and Analysis

  • Maine Office of Tourism commissions seasonal surveys and analyses for all of Maine, and breaks out a yearly report for the DART region including economic impact, number of visitors, and activities enjoyed
  • DART and MOT keep records of attendance and distribution at trade shows
  • DART tracks Google Analytics trends from DownEast Acadia.com to prioritize website and visitor guide updates and inform direction for marketing plans, social media, and advertising
